Beaumont taxpayers will have to wait a bit longer before finding out how much the James Mathews Junior case is costing them.
Mathews is a Beaumont firefighter.
The city fired him last year, and since then he's been re-hired.
But the controversy has generated two separate court cases.
Fox 4 filed an Open Records Request to find out how much Beaumont has spent on legal fees.
But the city has asked for an opinion from the Texas Attorney General before releasing the information.
It claims that some of the financial statements have information that's confidential to the case.
In May, when we first inquired into this matter, the city released some of the costs.
The information it gave us showed that Beaumont had spent almost $16,000 trying to keep Mathews from getting his job back. That's the amount in legal fees the city had paid the Parker Law Firm from January to May 2010.
Mathews was fired in November of 2008 after he was charged with assault.
The case was eventually dismissed and Mathews' records expunged.
An arbitrator and a judge both ordered the city to give Mathews back his job.
The city fought the orders in court.
Eventually the city allowed Mathews to return to his job, but it is still involved in a legal battle.
City officials are appealing the orders. They are also in litigation over whether they released Mathews' expunged records.

Our Sales Manager left and the Chief Engineer is leaving as well. The company that owns the station is supposed to buy Channel Six in the coming year, so I guess we will see everybody loose their job, except the General Manager who is really horrible at his job. He gets to keep working and probably gets a bonus. How bad is it that you can be such a terrible boss that you can get all your employees laid off and more than likely get a promotion out of it.
