Twitter Me This

Twitter is one of the latest fads. It lets us put information on the web right as it happens. But, as ABC's Terry Moran found out, such instantaneous broadcasts can backfire. Do we, as journalists, have a duty to post things immediately or should we wait until our editors/program directors check them first?

KFDM uses twitter as a dumping ground for all of those AP stories that are too lame for use on the air. KBMT sends too many weather updates. Fox, well, its still channel 4 what can I say

Anonymous said...

I think 4's whole newscast could fit on Twitter

including commercials

Well I guess Greg isn't leaving after all. Told you.

Channel 4 has dropped the ball so many times, they be on the waiver wire if they were a football player.

Greg has a couple of commitments to fulfill and then he is GONE!

Weren't you saying that back in May? It doesn't look like he's going anywhere.

Could someone send out a twitter if anything real appears on this blog

Am I reading this wrong or is KFDM calling a law passed 3 years ago a "new" law?

LUMBERTON - A new state law this year requires Texas schools to incorporate Bible literacy into their high school curriculum. The problem is there's no money for training or specific guidelines for teachers. One Hardin County school is ahead of the curve. Lumberton High has added an elective class dedicated to the subject.

Twenty-six Lumberton High School students are among the first taking a new course. It's called Bible Class. This is the first year it's being offered. Nancy Thomas is the teacher. She's been teaching since the 1960's.

This is the first time she's had no money for training and no guidance for curriculum. However, according to the state of Texas she's qualified because she teaches history and literature. The law passed in 2007 requiring Texas schools to teach students about the old and new testaments' impact on history and literature of western culture.

School districts do not have to offer a class specifically on the subject bible literacy but they do have to find a way to incorporate it into lessons. They can do that through existing history or literature classes.

According to the law, a course under this section shall not endorse, favor, promote, dis-favor or show hostility toward any particular religion or non-religious faith or religious perspectives.

The course shall maintain religious neutrality and accommodate diverse religious views.

How come the media does not report on the corruption in BISD?

Anonymous said...

Right on. The media have been so kind to BISD as of late. Everything has been so positive and sunny that's written about the distrct. Unless you consider ALMOST EVERY STORY IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. What kind of a dumbass writes a stupid question like that. I hope that rock is comfortable since you've been living under it.

Sounds like someone hit a cord.

Anonymous said...

BISD has the media in their pocket. They are afraid of saying anything for fear of being called racist.

Anonymous said...

That is the damn truth!

Anonymous said...

Are we watching the same news here? Doesn't look like they're too afraid to me, phil.

Regarding the Bible law mentioned above. It just took effect this fall you idiot. Why not get your facts straight before you jump to conclusions and start criticizing people?

Anonymous said...

some people will never learn

Anonymous said...

Nope, West Orange Stark started the classes back last year after the law was actually passed. The law is not new. If not, then you should do a story about West Orange Stark and how it jumped the gun in taking advantage of a law that was not in "effect."

I don't know what's funnier. The Port Arthur News misspelling NOBEL or Klein misspelling PEACE while making fun of the Port Arthur News!

Anonymous said...

Thats funny

Anonymous said...

He changed it. Sam the Eagle got a screenshot of it though.

Klein bitching about spelling is about as hypocritical as it gets. Lets see if he fixes the other three mistakes.

Who cares?

Anonymous said...

It was pretty funny. Philip tries so hard.

Anonymous said...

No he doesnt. The man is a wannabe journalist in the body of an idiot.

Yawn!

Again, check your facts. This is from the Houston Chronicle October 12, 2009.

The 2007 law requires schools, beginning this year, to include some Bible literacy in history and literature classes. Bible classes are optional but encouraged under the law. The thinking is that educated students must be familiar with biblical references and themes that pervade culture and society.

Yawn!

Double Yawn!

The 2007 law.... Is that the "New" law you are talking about?

All this time I thought it was 2009
