And now for something completely different...

Let's talk about something else. You will lose points for discussing Philip Klein.

Does this mean Greg is not leaving?

Anonymous said...

Probably not.......I am trying to figure the two new weather-persons at KBMT/K-JAC. So far, they are pretty good. The only problem, they won't stay long before they move on to bigger and better paying markets.
I have got to quit watching KFDM, the news is well, ok, the weather is good, but how in the world Mike Friedman keeps a job is beyond me? The entire sports- Football camp at Memorial HS, The Houston Texans wide receivers, and the interview was done by by Ch. 11 in Houston. That's IT! Two stories. Hell, I could have done tonight's sports.

Greg Bostwick's last telecast is scheduled to be on 4th of July weekend as he accepts a lucrative consulting position with British Petroleum as a meteorlogical advisor. We wish you the best, Greg.

Greg is not leaving!

Dave's sports on K-JAC. Basketball camp at Westgate Baptist, girl's softball team From Tyler Co. wins tournament at College Station, Wimbledon highlights, group finals in World Cup. A good sports report.

My butt! Greg is a retard who will be out before the next sweeps!

Anonymous said...

Greg is going to drop dead at age 99 broadcasting a hurricane in the gulf. He ain't going no place. Why should he? He works 15 minutes a night.

Anonymous said...

Dude, it hasn't been KJAC in quite a while. You need to get out some.

Anonymous said...

K-JAC is what Channel 12 is calling their NBC station. Pay attention to what is going on Anon 5:44.

Anonymous said...

What channel is KJAC?? The am weather girl is hot on 12,or whatver that station is...Why is the anchor so huge? Dude looks like king kong

Big Dummy said...

KJAC is god awful!!! Who can stand to watch that trash! I'm hearing that they will go bankrupt by the end of the fall. I just read in some magazine that their earnings are $72,000 a month!!! HAHAHA....that is terrible. I watch Mike Friedman when I need to fall asleep because he's so bad...just like Dan and James!

Anonymous said...

K-JAC is not bad. It is better than KFDM and KBTV. I have started to watch the 6:30 news over " Wheel of Misfortune," " Guess what I Got In The Bag," and Some Entertainment crap on Ch. 4.
Speaking of Wheel of Misfortune, who the hell watches that mess? Pat is about 70 and Banana is pushing 60. Is it for the geriatric crowd? Is it now sponsored by Geritol? AARP?

Anonymous said...

What was that sound? Damn that was loud! Oh, it was just KFDM's ratings falling again.

Anonymous said...

Mike Friedman's sports.....Dave Campbell was at Larry's French Market, Lamar baseball has a new Assoc.Head Coach, the Beaumont Open.....YAWN! I would have at least mentioned the defending World Cup champ is out, or the NBA draft, or the marathon tennis match....Beaumont Open. Minor league golf. We can't keep minor league hockey or baseball, What makes you think this area cares about minor league GOLF??

Anonymous said...

as happy as i am for football to return to lamar, it will go by the wayside like every other semi-pro sport to die in south east texas.

Anonymous said...

I am a Lamar grad, I played in the " Grandest Band in the Land" for 4 years, but this is a waste of money. I may go to one game a year, maybe.
The first couple of years may have good crowds, but they will go away, as the novelty wears off.
Lamar plays McNeese its' first game. I wouldn't be shocked if McNeese scores 50+ points.
This is a novelty. Lamar can't get a decent crowd for basketball, and football will the same. There will be a core crowd of maybe 3000-4000 people, and then maybe another 2000-3000 people will attend. The stadium will be half full. PNG, Nederland other high schools will draw bigger crowds.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone remember back in the 80's...the promise to keep Lamar football if the crowds were above a certain size....the students DID show up...but the people that run the place got rid of football anyway. Just another ploy then to get more money (remember, the fees did not go down when football went away)...and now they have a fee charged to the kids to get football back. When the team goes away, the new fees will stay, cause that's how the Cardinals play!

Anonymous said...

I do not look for football to go away this time, I just look for it to be a drain on other resources of the university.
Example: If anyone in the media was worth a damn, they would look at the "hell-hole" the Music Department has been relegated to while the new one is being renovated. The renovations are pretty much stopped right now, while all construction money goes to the new football field.
Brook-Shivers was a dorm for the uneducated. It was pretty much condemned and shut years ago. It has been the temporary music building going on over 2 years now. You need to take a walk through the place. It isn't fit for humans to work in, starting with the mold.
It isn't just music that has suffered. Seriously, some in the media needs to look into why academic programs have suffered at the hands of football.

Anonymous said...

Actaully I was there in the 80's. The place is a palace now compared to what we had. I wouldn't call any of the buildings a hell-hole today. I think it is a shame that so much is going to football and fancy recreation areas. Here's an idea, lower the tuition and let more students in with the money. Naw, we would rather look top notch and focus on making rich kids feel good than educate the community. Yup, mispellings and all, I am a Lamar grad.

Anonymous said...

Walk out to Brook Shivers and look at what is out there.

Anonymous said...

I graduated from Lamar in the 1970s. I do not see an improvement from my alma mater. From time to time I have the opportunity to employ a Lamar graduate. The level of product Lamar has turned out in the last 10-15 years is not that good. It is like Lamar is turning out product like an assembly line. It is like the Big 3 auto makers from the 60s-70s, turning out all sort of products, but the product is not that good.

Anonymous said...

I was not talking about the product, just the window dressing. The buildings are much better and the dorms are better. As far as the level of education, it speaks for itself.

By the way

Philip Klein
How many points do I lose for this one?

Anonymous said...

The dorms are better, many of the building are better. I do remember in the 1980s when the grass was not mowed for 5-6 weeks and the entire college looked abandoned.
Lamar's product is awful, and no one wants to say anything about it. I am sorry, I live in this area and I hire people from time to time and I look long and hard before I hire a new Lamar grad. Pre-1995 Lamar grads had an education. Since then, I do not know what they are doing out at the school?
There are so many people who send me a resume with a degree in " General Studies." They have pretty much have gone to school and studied, well, not much of anything. Just taken classes in this and that...
As much as it pains me to say this, in the last year,I have hired a McNeese, a UH, and an UL-Lafayette grad(s) over the Lamar applicants.
The Lamar applicants have no interviewing skills, have this entitled view, that because they are from the area, they should receive the position. The Lamar grads I have hired in the last few years just couldn't perform to the level promised.
It isn't just me. I have a friend who is a school principal. She tries to hire new teachers from anyplace other than Lamar. She actively goes after SFA, Sam Houston, UTA grads to teach in her school.
If I had a child who was going to college in the future, I would not send them to Lamar. And it saddens me to say this.

Anonymous said...

How can you take a rapping wanna-be weatherman serious during hurricane season?

feel fortunate said...

I am a 1970's graduate. I would be interested in knowing with which school at Lamar you are having such disappointment? Over the past thirty years I (we) have hired probably that many grads or more due to growth and natural turnover. There have been only two that I can recall being disappointed with as to knowledge and work skills. My perception of the changes at Lamar over these past thirty some-odd years has been mostly good. I have two children who graduated from Lamar, both hold down good positions in different fields and have done well within their chosen field. I am sorry, I just don't get all the criticism. Seems to me that most of you are just like all the rest of the whiners in the area that don't like anything that goes on here, and seemingly are doing nothing to improve it.

Anonymous said...

I need people with a science background. Like I have said, I am a Lamar grad, my two kids are Lamar grads.
Not a whiner or griper. Just calling it as I see it. I used to would fight you for biology or geology majors from Lamar. About 1996-1998, something happened. Their knowledge of the basics were weak. I understand the engineering majors are still very good, business is still good. But science majors, just do not have the background for the work I need.

feel fortunate said...

Fair enough. I have no experience with the Science Program (other than the required basics when I was a student :)) My hires all came from the School of Business, and with some changes over the past few years, I feel that they have become even stronger. Sorry that your experience has not been so satisfying. I did not intend to label you a whiner, and I apologize.

Anonymous said...

That's okay Fortunate....It is like my principal friend. The Lamar grads all seems to a have B.S. political science degree and they are applying for history jobs. They have passed the Social Studies Composite certificate exam, but as having a solid history background for teaching, they do not. Same thing with with science teachers. They may have passed the Science Test, but their degree is in "General Studies" and have not taken enough biology to teach.

desperate fox 4...ratings are terrible...if not for their sports department, that place would fold.

Anonymous said...

Seriously, does anyone watch either the 4pm or 9pm news on Fox? I have tried, but I can't, I just can't.
Then they have that Eddie Munster looking guy in the mornings, with a woman who has no facial expressions, and the rapping weatherman who needs a sandwich.

here come the haters! right on time...come on, you have to think of something better to say than the same old stuff.."Fox is bad, blah blah.."..."no ratings.."...you're just jealous cause FOX is fun and interesting and the others are BORING...simple as that..., so.Let me think of another one for you,...um, Oh, I know, "they're in the mall...", "that sucks.." haha...

Anonymous said...

Yea. Not everyone has an immature news director who posts silly videos on YouTube. You looked like a fool Angel.

Anonymous said...

You know, if this site is getting talked about and complained about on the "air", then it must be doing some good.
Not a hater, just want the 3 news stations to do a good job. I really do. I know you are going to have an off night. I know there are going to be days in which you HAVE to put on link sales and wrecks in Vidor, but sometimes things happen in this area and you act as if you are afraid to be reporters. I know there is going to be a big turn-over of reporters. I know their goal is Houston, or Dallas, or Miami, or Chicago, or NYC.
I am guessing you want to be like most of the people I hire today, you want to be told " you're doing a good job" every 10 minutes. I can't remember the last time my boss told me I was doing a good job. She tells me on the 1st and 15th of every month when money is direct deposited into my account from Austin.
KFDM, KBMT, KBTV, we love you, we really do. Hell, I even like Klein's site ( I know minus 20) I don't agree with him all the time, but I don't agree with my wife 100% of the time either.
I don't know who Trog is, I have a suspicion, but I may be wrong, that said, I am glad they have this site. ( I really do not care for the sexual references, but I figure the person(s) who writes them has some real psychological problems.)
Media folks, if some of us call it as we see it, I'm sorry, if you are offended. I am criticized by the public too, and rather than get all mad at the customer, I try to fix it.

Anonymous said...

I find it interesting that since Trog exposed Klein, the crap (including the sexual references) on this site has stopped.

Anonymous said...

I started reading this topic and originally thought it was a Lamar bashing, then a Fox bashing. Same old stuff - okay Lamar is new and shame on you haters - you ARE the reason things don't work out in Beaumont. But, same old bashing, nonetheless. Then I realized - no one is bashing the "biggest foobar" I have seen in years - the Channel 12 weather girl's statements this morning? Threatening to "cut someone" on air? Giving stupid directions to a cameraman while on the air?

What's up with that? And, where have you been Paul?

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:11, that is part of the problem with this area. Everything is "Peaches and Cream" in this area. Everything is going well, let's just let the status quo continue. Let's just smile and pretend that Lamar, or the local news, or local government doesn't have problems. For too many years we have had nothing but the "bandwagon" approach to everything. Get on board, say everything is okay, even if it isn't, everything is lovely. Well, everything is not always okay, and part of the appeal to this forum.

Anonymous said...

When did Fox start a news cast?

Anonymous KBMT Employee said...

Anon 6:11

The morning meteorologist's on-air faux pas was actually not her fault. A production crew member accidentally put a bad take of a taped cut-in on the air. And the "I will cut you" line is an inside joke amongst the staff, not an actual threat.

Anonymous said...

has anyone looked into following up on the story of the jefferson county sheriff's department employees and their hurricane money?

Anonymous said...

Dear Anonymous KBMT employee,

Seriously? She looked like an idiot and total prima dona - telling off a fellow employee on the air. And, I don't care how you portray it, she made (particularly) Traci and the entire morning news crew look bad. And telling anyone, "I'm going to CUT you" over the air IS a threat.

The total lack of response just shows that most posters on here are KBMT employees.

Dana's Wig said...

KBMT "employee"....an inside joke? RIGHT...LOL @ KMBT...

Has anyone heard anything about the last ratings report? Who got what?

Not a KBMT employee said...

stop hating on the weather girl...

Anonymous said...

Yes, stop hating on the weather girl.....

Anonymous said...

The "I will cut you line" ws not a threat, and any person watching knows that it comes from a opular TV program. On-camera mistakes happen, and you should disregard them if they are made in jest and contain no obsceneties.

And by the way, the young lady doing morning weather reports on KBMT is quite personable and no prima donna. She loves the station and the TV market, and I think that the weather team there is a solid foundation for success in future ratings.

Anonymous said...

How is working with the new GM at Fox 4?

Anonymous said...

I am a layman and the weather team at KBMT is pretty good. We have not gone through a hurricane or a flood with them yet, so we'll see just how good they are.

Anonymous said...

Are you there Obama? It's me, Margaret.

What did she do that was so bad, rap the weather or something?

The board has gotten much better now that he that will remain nameless has been banished. Nice job, Trog.

For whever said Political Science is a b.s. degree, I challege you to take Dr. Sowers Advanced Research Methods. Your head will explode. I don't agree with those who major in the field going on to teach history, but c'mon.... a b.s. degree? I think not.

Poly Sci said...

*whoever *challenge

Anonymous said...

It is a B.S. degree. I received one back in the 1970s when Bill Tucker was lecturing translating his notes from French to English in the Political Philosophy I&II classes. ( His Ph.D was from the Univ. of Geneva in Switzerland.)When they had Ron Stidham teaching. When Bruce Drury was in his prime. I went back and got a B. A. in History when Paul Issacs was teaching Historical Research. Not THAT was a a hard class. You didn't live until you had Sutton or Satterfield for a history class. And I really feel sad for you that you never had Ralph Wooster as a teacher. He might have been the best teacher I have ever had the privilege to hear lecture.

Poly Sci said...

I've heard about Wooster, and I've met Bruce at a couple of events- I do wish I had him as a professor. Still, we have Dr. Utter, Dr. Terri Davis, and Dr. Sowers around to try and get everyone in shape...

As for history, they have some new-ish professors, namely Dr. Forret who is absolutely AMAZING and Dr. Mengerick who is superb with European history, that are probably going to set a new standard for the department. Forrett is probably to me what Wooster was to you- an unsurpassed lecturer.

Anyways... that was off subject...
